The Magnicent Christ this Christmas?

The word magnifcent is really a bit out of fashion. There was a time when it was in fashion - probably 50 years ago when Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn et al were legends in "The Magnificent Seven". It was a story of a group gun-slingers brought in by a struggling Mexican town to fight and die (well some of them did any way) for their cheap little town. The magnificent bit is the hardness and courage of these men of violence as well as the somewhat less direct and slowly arriving courage of the townsfolk.

Looking forward to new buildings

Our building project looks to be finally getting wings! We are hoping the builders we be coming in  the early spring but are all wondering just exactly when. It's kind if exciting (and scary) realising we are not going to have a building for a while, but we are trusting God for good things.

Book Review: George Whitfield by John Pollock

Its a Great Read
I've been meaning to read this biography by John Pollock for many years, and now that I have I must recommend it. It is a great read by a capable biographer. His walk through the amazingly God blessed life of George Whitefield helped me again to see just how wonderfully God has worked upon our nation in the past. Pollock's account of the deep friendship Whitefield had with the Wesley’s was fascinating. All in all this is a good book.

Craft Evening

There was a craft evening on Friday the 12th, with about 40 ladies trying out things like making gift boxes, jewellery, Christmas cards and decorating cakes. From what I understand everyone had a great time and it went really well. Many thanks to:

My Book of the year: Future Grace - by John Piper.

I've been reading Future Grace by John Piper (a well known conservative baptist theologian - see http://www.desiringgod.org/ ) in the last few weeks and have been really impressed. I think it is my Christian book of the year and will have a significant impact on my life. The central theme of the book is that the kind of faith that makes a real difference is one that is full of hope and trust for the future. He calls this the 'power of living by faith in future grace'.

Well done Chloe, Nicola and Jacob

Well done Chloe, Nicola and Jacob in getting into uni this year.
Chloe will study Physical Geography with Natural Hazard Management in Chester, Nicola will study Learning Disability Nursing in Coventry and Jacob will be doing Chemistry at Manchester.
The church will rattle a bit  without you guys - expecially coz of all you do for the music out the front, but still really pleased for you.
Be Good!
